When selecting the main bearing, the type, combination and configuration of the bearing should be selected according to the requirements of the main shaft components in terms of rotational accuracy, stiffness, bearing capacity and rotational speed. At the same time, factors such as bearing supply and economy should also be considered. Spindle bearings can be divided into two categories: rolling bearings and sliding bearings.
In general, the main shaft should use rolling bearings as much as possible, especially the vertical main shaft, which can be lubricated with grease to avoid oil leakage. Sliding bearings are only used when the roughness of the machined surface is required to be small and the spindle is arranged horizontally. The vibration resistance of the main shaft component is mainly determined by the front bearing. Therefore, there are also sliding bearings for the front support of the main shaft, and rolling bearings for the rear support and thrust bearing.
In terms of lubrication method, if the main bearing adopts pressure lubrication, almost all the main shafts rely on pressure lubrication. Due to the different working methods, the main bearing often adopts a combination of pressure and splash lubrication. The space between the cylinder wall and the piston on the car is almost entirely splash lubricated. Only in some large marine internal combustion engines with low speed, the pressure lubrication method with oil passages is used.
