By adjusting the blade angle, the turbine can:

  • Optimize power output under changing wind conditions

  • Limit loads during high winds

  • Support controlled startup and shutdown

Yaw Bearings

A yaw bearing is installed between the wind turbine tower and nacelle. It supports the weight and operating loads of the nacelle while allowing the yaw system to rotate the nacelle toward the wind.

Correct yaw alignment helps the rotor capture wind efficiently. A yaw bearing must carry axial loads, radial loads and overturning moments created by the nacelle, rotor and wind forces.

Depending on the turbine design, yaw bearings may use:

  • Single-row four-point contact ball structures

  • Double-row ball structures

  • Crossed roller structures

  • Internal, external or non-geared configurations

Main Shaft Bearings

Unlike pitch and yaw bearings, a main shaft bearing rotates continuously while the turbine operates. It must accommodate radial loads, axial loads, bending moments and possible shaft misalignment.
